Cloudmark, company that specializes in providing security software solutions, has recently announced that its Global Threat Network technology has received US patent number 7373385. The invention of this technology is credited to Vipul Ved Prakash and it is the first ever collaborative threat detection system. A total of 600 million trusted sources report on the threats and dangers one can encounter online.

Leon Rishniw, Vice President of Engineering with Cloudmark comments: "Today's sophisticated and fast-moving messaging attacks easily outpace solutions that rely on manual isolation and remediation. Only an automated, real-time global threat detection system can offer the accuracy and fast response time needed to effectively combat today's threats."

But from which sources does the Global Threat Network System draw its information? The staggering number of trusted sources ranges from service provider abuse teams, system admins and honeypots to regular users. Each of these sources provides real-time e-mail message reports to the system, allowing it to automatically block spam messages that may pass the filters and detect phishing attempts and virus infections. How much time passes from detecting a threat to providing adequate security? According to Cloudmark, just a few minutes.

Leon Rishniw again: "The Global Threat Network is the first and largest trusted collaborative threat detection system in the world. His patented technology gives Cloudmark customers unmatched protection against emerging threats and demonstrates Cloudmark's expertise and innovation in the field of messaging security."

What makes the Global Threat Network system great is the fact that it is not updated by a limited amount of researchers from just one company. Every day, every hour, millions of sources update the system so that it can provide the highest possible level of security. This way information on various types of threats comes in from all corners of the globe.
