Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile is getting closer and closer to the release of a successor for its Xperia Z2 flagship handset, and some new photos with the device are now available for your viewing pleasure.

The phone, long rumored to arrive on the market under the name of Sony Xperia Z3, has been spotted online quite a few times before, yet no official confirmation on it has been provided as of now.

Of course, we do know that it will be coming later this fall, most probably during the IFA 2014 show in Berlin, given that Sony has already revealed that new flagship models will arrive every six months.

However, no other details on its capabilities and specs have been provided as of now, and all that we know on it comes from rumors.

The newly leaked photos with the phone, for example, have emerged online courtesy of infamous tipster evleaks, who has recently provided some info on what we should expect from the device in terms of hardware.

According to him, the upcoming smartphone will be released with a 5.15-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a full HD resolution, which will make it about the same size as its predecessor, the Xperia Z2.

Moreover, the handset is said to be powered by a 2.4GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, which will be paired with 3GB of RAM.

The report also claims that Sony will release the upcoming Xperia Z3 with 16GB of internal memory, as well as with a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes.

On the back, the handset will feature a 20.7-megapixel camera, most probably capable of recording videos in 4K resolution. A 2.1MP front camera is also said to be present on the mobile phone.

Overall, the Sony Xperia Z3 is shaping up like a very appealing high-end smartphone, yet its hardware specs are almost identical to those that Xperia Z2 arrived on shelves with earlier this year, and it remains to be seen exactly how the new handset will differentiate from its predecessor.

In fact, the phone's outer design too resembles a lot the one employed by the currently available flagship, except for a series of small changes, such as the more rounded edges.

When made official, the upcoming device will run under the Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system, but it is also expected to sport various exclusive software features coming from Sony itself.

As mentioned above, the phone should be announced at IFA, which means that enthusiasts will have to wait only about a month and a half before the phone is formally introduced. In the meantime, have a look at the newly leaked photos with it.
