Japanese phone maker Sony Mobile is getting ready for the release of a new series of Xperia smartphones, and some info on the codenames of three of these devices is now available.

Apparently, the vendor is preparing the release of phones codenamed after constellations, namely Aries, Leo and Pegasus, at least this is what details that have emerged on Chinese websites Weibo and Digi-Wo suggest.

While these names might not say much about the capabilities that these new phones would have to offer when released, the guys over at GforGames suggest that they have some insight on them.

According to them, the Leo would be none other than the Sony Xperia Z3 that is expected to make an official appearance at IFA 2014 in Berlin, exactly one year after Xperia Z1 was launched there.

Moreover, the news site claims that Aries will arrive on the market as the Xperia Z3 Compact, one that will include the same high-end hardware specs as the flagship, but a much smaller form factor.

Unfortunately, the Pegasus remains a mystery for the time being, as no details on what it might have to offer when made official have been provided as of now.

One way or the other, at least one of the three handsets will be released before the end of the summer, namely the Xperia Z3.

However, the smaller version of the device could be launched soon after the original, though no specific info on its availability timeframe has been provided as of now.

As you can imagine, no official confirmation on any of the three handsets has been provided as of now, and we should take the info above with a grain of salt for the time being.

However, GforGames claims that the source of the new rumor actually has a good track record, and that the few details that have emerged so far on Aries and Leo might actually pan out.

One thing that we need to agree upon is the fact that Xperia Z3 has a chance to actually be formally unveiled at IFA 2014.

Earlier this year, Sony officially confirmed that it moved to a six-month release cycle for its flagship devices, and the timing seems about right, when considering the fact that Xperia Z2 went official at the end of February in Barcelona.

Hopefully, some more details on the matter will emerge sooner rather than later, so stay tuned to learn the news.
