Among the countless laptop and notebook brands around the world, Sony VAIO series has a very special place because of its high quality components, excellent performance and sleek and elegant design. Now, the European division of the Japanese computer hardware manufacturer and seller Sony, announced the launch of two upgraded versions of notebooks from the Sony VAIO series.

According to a
Sony Europe press release, some of the notebooks from the new VAIO SZ6-Series and VAIO TZ20-Series come with integrated Wireless Wide Area Network, WWAN for short, capabilities. As the Sony VAIO offers complete compatibility with just every wireless standard around the world, users will have the possibility of making the most of their broadband Internet connection even in areas outside wireless hot spots. This feat is accomplished by using the mobile phone networks for Internet access.

"Soon WWAN will be the norm," says Hidetoshi Takigawa, Director of Marketing for VAIO Of Europe, VOE for short, who was cited in the company's press release. "But right now, we are trailblazing both by developing the VAIO 'everywair' hardware and by forging relationships with network providers. VAIO owners now and in the future will benefit from the technical know-how we've already built up. We are ensuring that VAIO becomes synonymous with cutting edge mobile connectivity." Sony notebooks from the VAIO family use a technology called High Speed Downlink Packet Address, HSDPA for short, in order to gain access to mobile phone networks and deliver to their users a high speed connection that can reach up to 3.6Mbps, meaning that the HSDPA is no less than 10 times faster than the mobile 3G technology.

In order to obtain a good signal strength even in areas where signal is usually spotty, the Sony VAIO machines use a pair of antennas concealed in the lid and because there is no external hardware needed the SIM card is directly inserted into a special slot found in the laptop's body. These features are found in the VAIO SZ6-Series of notebooks that are centered around the users' mobility as the whole machine is very light having only 1.79kg, while the other notebook family, the VAIO TZ20-Series, comes as the ultimate mobility pack as it offers a battery life of up to 7.5 hours. The VAIO TZ20-Series also features an impressive looking and resilient carbon fiber casing that offers increased protection over the traditional plastic solutions at a lower weight and a 11.1-inch X-black LCD enhanced screen that comes with the 16:9 wide aspect ration. At the same time, the other new Sony VAIO family of notebooks comes with a larger 13.3-inch WXGA screen with X-black LCD enhanced contrast "and LED backlight technology provides a richly colored, bright and roomy workspace", while also featuring the unique Stamina Mode switch that allows users to select from extended battery life and aggressive graphics performance.
