Called MDR-ZX750BN, they have an integrated microphone and rechargeable battery

Headphones can have a host of different features, from gold-plated ports to a total lack of cables, and Sony has just released a pair that combine some of the best high-end perks of audio devices.

The new set of headphones is called MDR-ZX750BN, which really doesn't do their feature set justice, but we suppose that audio products don't often adopt grand monikers.

Sure, some do get labeled after gods, or stamped with certain qualifiers like “Gaming” and “Extreme,” but Sony forewent such things this time.

It might have thought that the look of the product would be enough to get people interested, and if true, it might have a point.

The press shot makes it obvious that this is a wireless headset, one with padded over-ear cups and a soft headband.

One of the main assets is the Bluetooth technology, which makes the cable-less design mentioned before possible.

There's another part to that, though, specifically the NFC support. Near-Field Communication tech allows you to instantly pair the headphones with any device that also has NFC.

It won't help with PCs much, since desktops and laptops seldom have NFC, for now anyway. But it should be quite useful with smartphones.

Considering that the headphones have an integrated microphone, the NFC tech will be good when you want to take a call without pulling out your phone from your pocket.

The rest of the time, you can just listen to music or whatever else. And you don't need to worry about being rendered deaf to everything around you.

Sure, the Sony MDR-ZX750BN have digital noise canceling technology, active noise canceling as it were, but it's not always on.

You need to activate it by pressing a button on. When it's not on, the ear cups will still filter out some noise, but it won't block out, say, the sounds of a gathering crowd or an approaching car. And you won't fail to hear someone yelling to gain your attention either.

Other features of the MDR-ZX750BN include native aptX and AAC compatibility, 20 - 20,000 Hz frequency response (8- 22,000 Hz via optional audio cable, included in the box), a USB charging cable, a conventional 1/8" stereo audio cable, and a battery that can last for 13 hours on one charge (with noise canceling activated and while continuously playing music).

Sony MDR-ZX750BN headphones should already be up for sale at $199.99 / €199.99.
