Bethesda has just deployed a small update for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on the PC platform via Steam, which finally adds the 4GB Tuning, aka the large address aware feature to the massive role playing game.

While Skyrim delighted millions of gamers from all around the world, shipping well over 10 million units, the game is far from perfect, with many glitches, some hilarious, some quite serious, affecting its gameplay.

After a few patches that did more harm than good, causing other major problems or leading once again to frequent crashes for PC owners, Bethesda has now deployed a smaller update, which adds the oft-requested Large Address Aware functionality, that means, in simpler terms, that the game's executable will be able to use more than 2GB of virtual memory, thus improving stability and performance.

Until now, Skyrim PC owners needed to use a third-party mod to make necessary changes to the game's .exe file and force it to use more memory. Hopefully this new patch will eliminate the need to use other tools and provide Skyrim some much needed stability.

The update is now available on Steam and weighs in at 18.5MB.

Sounds Good, hopefully this will not cause issues. I had delayed using the mod version as it ran perfect for me without it. At 195 hours played 70% complete not a single crash so far and except for the odd npc behavior here or there, nothing remotely quest breaking. Game is outstanding.

my assigned "follower" followed me dropping down from a "roof" of a cave, its just that, when i turned too spot her, i saw her litterally ran in mid the air coming down from on top of those rocks. looked like something you would see in kung fu * like "crouching tiger and hidden dragon". reeeeeaally weird..

I'll be happy when they fix the many quest bugs. I can't finish several quests because of them. These should have been caught and fixed before launch.

Hey Mr. Game maker(s). How's about you stop being so lazy and money grubbing (Code once port for EVERYTHING) and compile the game so it's actually 64bit, and able to make use of the 4+ gigs of RAM most of us have in our PCs. Hey maybe doing that would get Sony and Microsoft to out us better consoles! Give up your love affair of the outdated and limiting (now) garbage 32bit. HEY you never know. Maybe the PC manufacturers might actually see a boost in sales as well. Code and compile to make full use of the processing power and RAM in the case. THEN You won't need any (Or very little) performance robbing virtual memory.

Untill this patch I had nog problems running the game. Since I've installed it the game makes my PC shut down after a few minutes of playing. Pitty that with Steam it's not possible to revert a patch :-(
