For Windows Vista MAK/KMS scenarios

At the beginning of April, Microsoft has quietly introduced new security procedures that directly impact the Windows Vista activation process. According to the Redmond Company's perspective, the changes do nothing more than introduce improvements in the Windows Vista Activation 2.0.

Joseph Lumia, Account Technology Specialist Microsoft Enterprise Education provided an insight on the new security procedures for MAK/KMS key blocks, reissue or significant activation increase. "Microsoft is adding an additional check to certain requests concerning Volume Activation 2.0. This is in response to the request to have more institutional/organizational visibility for the key block/reissue requests that are occurring for the Windows Vista MAK/KMS scenarios," Lumia explained.

Microsoft revealed that the modifications apply not only to the Windows Vista activation but also to that of the upcoming release of Windows Server Longhorn. The procedural improvement for key block/reissue/increased-activations comes as a result of customer feedback.

The standard procedure for requesting MAK or KMS activation allowance increases a key activation block and a key reissue for Windows Vista is to contact either [email protected] or [email protected]. The process also involves contacting the product activation center prior to this action.

As an integer part of Microsoft's policy for increased Institutional visibility, Microsoft administrators will identify the "notices contact" via the Activation Call Centers. Only then, will Microsoft seek the approval for the block/reissue/increase-of-activations request. The express permission will result in Microsoft debuting the key block, key reissue, or process large activations.

"Microsoft understands that there are other process areas that we can improve to better serve the needs of our corporate and institutional customers, and specifically in managing the systems that supply volume licensing keys and other services. We will communicate new improvements as they occur," Lumia added.
