Samsung has been quite silent in terms of tablets lately. Back at IFA 2014, the Korean tech giant introduced the Galaxy Tab Active (a rugged version of the Galaxy Tab 4 8-inch), but nothing came after that.

Well, luckily the rumor mill has started to give us serious indications that Samsung is working towards refreshing its aging tablet lineup.

And this weekend, the folks at Sam Mobile are bringing us the specs of two of these upcoming models.

As we previously told you, when it comes to the new slates, Samsung is probably going to follow the same naming scheme it uses for its smartphones. This means we can except tablets from the Galaxy Tab A, Galaxy Tab E and Galaxy Tab J families.

Say hi to the Galaxy Tab A and Galaxy Tab A Plus

Today we are going to talk about two new models in Samsung’s coming lineup: the Galaxy Tab A and Galaxy Tab A Plus. They are mid-range products, but the latter arrives with an interesting feature.

The Galaxy Tab A and Tab A Plus will be offered in two sizes including 8-inches and 9.7-inches. The duo pretty much takes advantage of the same specifications with one notable difference. Interestingly enough, the Galaxy Tab A Plus is going to be the first Samsung tablet that doesn’t belong to the Note family that’s expected to arrive with an S Pen.

The 8-inch Galaxy Tab A and Tab A Plus will take advantage of a quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor clocked at 1.2GHz and will boast a disappointing resolution of 1024 x 769 pixels (they will have 4:3 aspect ratio just like the iPad) and 1.5GB of RAM.

Other specs include a 5MP/2MP camera combo, 16GB of internal storage and a 4,200 mAh battery.

As for the 9.7-inchers, they are different in a few aspects: they run on a 1.2GHz Qualcomm APQ8016 chip, have a larger battery (6,000 mAh) and bundle 2GB of RAM.

Samsung wants to make the tabs extremely comfortable to hold

Last but not least, the tablets are said to be 7.4 mm / 0.29 inches thin, which shows Samsung is committed to offering increasingly sleeker devices. Sammy’s Galaxy A smartphones were the most anorexic the company has ever produced.

The tablets will be offered in LTE and Wi-Fi flavors, but for the time being, we have absolutely no idea when they might be coming out.
