Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 is a consumer tablet, but the company had no qualms about modifying it for use by doctors and medical school students. That is how the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Medical Hub Edition came to be. The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Medical Hub Edition was prepared in collaboration with medical publishing house Academia.

While Academia did not contribute to the hardware side (the tablet hasn't really been modified), it did provide various medical dictionaries, practice textbooks, anatomy texts, drawing references, etc.

One example of a useful resource is the pre-loaded Mobile Medical Dictionary.

“The medical edition is a must for medical students with all the medical dictionaries, human anatomy drawing reference, anatomy drill and practice textbooks, and others available as basic options. The medical resources cover 9 latest editions of dictionaries such as range from Glossary of Medical Terms,” Samsung noted in a press statement.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Medical Hub Edition has a 10.1-inch LCD (1280 x 800 pixels), 2 GB of RAM, a quad-core Exynos CPU (1.4 GHz clock speed), up to 64 GB storage space, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n (2.4 & 5 GHz), Bluetooth 4.0 (Apt-X Codec support) and Wi-Fi Direct, plus Wi-Fi Channel Bonding.

Buyers will also get a 5-megapixel autofocus camera at the back (LED flash), a 1.9 MP front camera, and a 7000 mAh battery.

All the hardware is managed by the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system.

So far, the tablet is only available in South Korea, for 799,000 won ($728 / 558 Euro). Anyone who buys it before the end of April will receive a book cover or Bluetooth keyboard for free.

All in all, the newcomer won't help doctors much, but it will act as a good learning platform for students and interns. We don't know when, if ever, the newcomer will reach other nations.
