At GCF, this time

The Samsung GT-I8000 has been spotted for the first time in the wild back in February, when the handset received certification from the Wi-Fi Alliance, and now it has been seen once again “wandering” freely on the web, this time around at the Global Certification Forum.

Back in February, there were only a few details unveiled on the Samsung GT-I8000 handset, such as the fact that it would include support for Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11b and IEEE 802.11g standards, while also running under Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system. Other than that, we learned that the handset was called Cubic37.

While the Wi-Fi b/g support was confirmed more than two months ago, the Global Certification Forum now shows a little more details on a device than might soon become a new smartphone coming from the South Korean phone maker with the Windows Mobile platform on it. It seems that the handset is expected to come with support for quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE at 850/900/1800/1900 MHz, as well as for tri band UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA at 1800/1900/2100 MHz, so it should feature fast-data connectivity.

There are no further details available on the said Samsung smartphone, only that it should also feature support for MMS, as well as for video telephony, which would suggest that the mobile phone might also include 3G capabilities. However, the one thing that is for sure at this point is that the smartphone will come with both Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity.

Hopefully, Samsung won’t be too late in unveiling more details on this Windows Mobile-powered mobile phone, and we'll learn more details on its capabilities at that point. Unfortunately, there are no particularities on when that might happen, nor on when the handset might be released to the market. No info on a possible price tag is available either, but more should surface in the near future, so stay tuned to learn the news.
