Put on your pilgrim clothes because we're about to take a stroll into one of the darker parts of American history, that of the Salem witch hunts. A couple of days remain until WGN America debuts its new series “Salem” and we've got a new trailer to show for it.

This short video will try to convince you that “Witches are real,” but it's not just about the scares, it's also about the political and social implications, as the show struggles to capture the real impact that these witch hunts had on the community.

The plot is set in 17-century Massachusetts, when John Alden, a former soldier, returns to his native Salem to find it ravaged by witch hunt fever. The series also tries to put a supernatural spin on what might have caused the frenzy, but it could all be put down to the artistic effect.

Based on what can be seen in the trailer, “Salem” seems bent to prove that witches are real, but they're not as we would normally envision them in popular culture. Viewers will get to explore the new portrayal along the duration of the show.

The new show is supported by a cast that includes Janet Montgomery (“Entourage”), Shane West (“Nikita”), Seth Gabel, Ashley Madekwe and Xander Berkeley. “Salem” is set to premiere on WGN America on Sunday, April 20, at 10 pm ET.
