The past quarter has seen the release of many a hard disk drive or solid state drive designed for the newest of the SATA interfaces, but it looks like I-O Data doesn't feel like pushing things too fast.

Whenever the next generation of a widely used technology is completed, one can be certain that companies involved in making products compatible with it will work towards promoting it as best as possible.

Thus, it is no wonder that the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface and the SATA 6.0 Gbps (SATA III) are more or less a standard feature on PCs and other electronics already.

Nonetheless, since these two standards are still relatively young in the grand scheme of things, so to speak, the USB 2.0 and SATA II (SATA 3.0 Gbps) technologies aren't about to disappear any time soon.

With this in mind, it is not at all surprising to hear that an IT company or another has put together a series of solid state drives with support for SATA 3.0 Gbps data rates.

It is I-O Data that, in this instance, has made the news for taking such a step, creating two new internal solid state drives.

With capacities of 64 GB and 128 GB, respectively, they can read data at up to 206 MB/s and write it at 143 MB/s.

On the SATA II connection, these speeds are nothing to scoff at, nor is the support for TRIM (which makes sure performance does not degrade over time), although one would be hard-pressed to find any SSD still lacking the latter.

Either way, I-O Data has already added the products to its Japanese website, where they are priced at basically amounts to $158 (64 GB) and $306 (128 GB), respectively.

Unfortunately, shipments aren't going to begin until the month of August, by which time the exact sort of NAND Flash chips and the controller should be revealed as well.
