The company tests a new design

The design of the Google search engine result page is known in the entire world because every user that searches the Internet for a certain type of information has to go through the SERP to find it. Google Blogoscoped reported the search giant is now testing a new design for the SERP deciding to place the search technology into the right part of the page. This testing program comes after one week since the search giant started another test on the main page of the search engine, placing the search alternative in the upper part of the page. It seems like the test was available only for a limited period of time because it was displayed only last night for the "red cross" keyword.

"Steve points to his screenshot of what seems to be a new Google results prototype (in other words, you will only accidentally see it, as Google engineers merely aim to collect usage statistics). When Steve searched for red cross, he saw a box to the right side of search results presenting both the different Google engines - Google Images, Maps, News and Groups - as well as a related searches cluster with entries like red cross history," Philipp Lenssen from Google Blogoscoped said.

Although the last week's testing session was quite normal, a new design of the SERP is at least interesting because Google really wanted to keep the same design for a long period of time. As you might know, the company even granted a patent for the search engine result page, trying to avoid a potential similar page designed by another company. This week's test was identified directly on the main search technology that makes the matter even more interesting as the company also owns one more search engine especially designed for testing reasons.
