From now on, the NBA enters the logical world. No more San Antonio Spurs - Dallas Mavericks encounters before the Western Conference finals. Because we all know those are always going to be the best teams in the West. Last season, they've met in the conference semifinals because of the NBA rules. Well now, the rules have changed.
Starting next season, the first 4 seeded teams in
a conference will be the ones holding the best win/losses record, regardless of the division they're in. The NBA officials faced immense criticism last year when San Antonio met Dallas in the semifinals, and not in the final, as they were supposed to.
The two Texan teams were the best in the West but, because they were part of the same Division, one of them had to be 1 seeded, while the other, 4th seeded (since there are 3 divisions in the West and East). This way, teams with poorer win/losses record, but 1st in their division, had an advantage over a team with a better record than them, but second in another division.
Nothing else changed in the NBA throughout the summer. The regular season will end on the 17th of April next year, with every team playing their usual 82 games/season. The first 8 teams in each conference will go ahead and try their luck in the playoff.
The first game of next season's NBA will take place on the 31st of October, in Miami, where the heat will host Chicago Bulls. The second match of the night will take place in California, where Kobe's Los Angeles Lakers will face Phoenix Suns in Western Conference' opener.
