As tablets become more and more widespread, their range of uses also expands, with Mobile Clinical Assistants (or MCAs) also turning more popular, as Arbor proves by adding exactly such a product to their lineup, namely the M1040. The M1040 is a portable medical Tablet PC built around an Intel Atom N450 1.6 GHz processor and ICH8M chipset, accompanied by up to 2GB of DDR2-667 SO-DIMM system memory and two storage device options, including 120GB SATA HDD and 32GB SSD, for those situations when a solid state drive is a much better-suited solution.

The device also comes packed with a 10.4-inch touchscren display, that works both when pressed directly with one's finger or a stylus and sports a higher level of resilience against chemicals, meaning that it easily supports disinfection procedures, often required in hospitals.

It's also important to point out that the display offers a fairly good resolution, namely 1024 x 768 pixels, plus a 300 cd/m2 brightness level, that should prove to be enough in most situations, whether we're talking about the bright light of an operating room or the lower level of light encountered in many intensive care units.

Moreover, the M1040 Medical Clinical Assistant meets various standards for shock and vibration protection, while featuring a rather slim form factor (1.3 kg weight and 26mm thickness) and being powered by an internal, hot-swappable Li-battery, which offers an operating time up to 3.5 hours.

Additional important features worth mentioning include the built-in 2D barcode scanner, smart card reader, RFID reader and 2 CMOS cameras, while the M1040 also provides multiple connectivity including Bluetooth, Ethernet, Wi-Fi and 3.75G HSUPA.

Unfortunately, no pricing details regarding the new MCA from Arbor have been provided, so if you want to find out more on this topic, you'll probably have to contact the company directly.
