14 DAY TRIAL // In less than a month, the “RoboCop” reboot with Joel Kinnaman as Officer Alex Murphy will be arriving in theaters worldwide. A new video released to promote it emphasizes just how fast-paced the action in it will be.
Think video games. The promo is embedded above and shows RoboCop going up against two of OmniCorp’s ED-209 robots, which, just like RoboCop’s suit, have also been modernized.
Though I was fairly excited after seeing previous trailers, I have to admit that some of my enthusiasm died down a bit and no, it’s not because this particular sequence looks like something from a shooter.
If you look really close, you will see that some of the visual effects leave a little to be desired, while the explosions and rapid shots are so intense they seem ripped right out of a Michael Bay movie. Don’t get me wrong, all “Transformers” films were entertaining to various degrees, but there was always more to the RoboCop story than just his skills with a gun.
Let’s just hope the essence of this particular hero didn’t get lost in translation, as the saying goes.
Besides Kinnaman, the reboot also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Jackie Earle Haley, and Abbie Cornish.
