Ricoh's managed to establish itself as quite a serious manufacturer of compact digital cameras over the past couple of years, and now, the company's back with yet another item of interest, namely the CX5 digital camera, providing a rather interesting set of features at a mid-range price point.

As PhotographyBlog reports, the CX5 digital camera comes equipped with a wide-angle, high magnification 10.7x optical zoom (28–300 mm) lens, accompanied by a back-illuminated 10.00 million-pixel CMOS sensor.

Additionally, it's also interesting to mention that the camera sports a hybrid focusing system that enables AF to be shortened to as low as 0.2 sec. for both wide-angle 28 mm and telephoto 300 mm.

And since we're on this topic, we'll also have to point out that the compact digicam comes with subject-tracking AF, which continuously tracks and focuses on the subject automatically.

The device has also been equipped with a super-resolution zoom equivalent to up to 600 mm in addition to the 10.7x 28–300 mm optical zoom, while also sporting a high-definition 3.0-inch, 920,000-dot LCD monitor and supporting 1280x720 video recording.

Moreover, the camera also sports plenty of features meant to further boost the quality of the images taken with the CX5, including the Smooth Imaging Engine IV imaging engine and a noise reduction algorithm to process the image signal.

Plus, the camera offers users 14 different types of Scene Modes, some of the most interesting (and unusual) being the Cooking, Fireworks, and Continuous Golf Swing scene modes.

Last, but certainly not least, Ricoh informs us that the CX5 is compatible with Eye-Fi cards (X2 Series), SD memory cards with built-in wireless LAN functionality, enabling the fast and easy upload of photos to online services.

The Ricoh CX5 will be available in black, silver, and pink versions, and will go on sale for 259.99 pounds sterling (around 411 US dollars) from the end of February, at least in the UK.
