Microsoft released Windows Home Server Power Pack 1 to manufacturing on July 21, 2008, and subsequently made the gold bits available for download. But, what has been deemed as the equivalent of a fully fledged Service Pack for the Windows Home Server operating system is yet to truly reach the finish line, at least in terms of delivery. At the end of July, Microsoft RTM'ed only the English version of Windows Home Server PP1 with the promise that the German, French and Spanish versions will drop in August. Well, as of August 6, the Redmond giant has been living up to its promise.

"The Power Pack 1 train is leaving the station. Today the Windows Home Server team made the Power Pack 1 updates for all of the currently shipping languages available via the Microsoft Download Center. Additionally, we signed off on the Japanese language build and the 3 Chinese language builds," stated Todd Headrick, the product planner for the Microsoft Windows Home Server.

For now, the download links provided for the German, French and Spanish versions of Windows Home Server Power Pack 1 point exclusively to TechNet and not to the Microsoft Download Center. This means that outside of TechNet subscribers, the remaining users of Windows Home Server will not be able to get Power Pack 1, at least not this week. However, early next week, Microsoft will start distributing the Power Pack 1 packages for all RTM'ed language versions via WU.

"The Power Pack 1 update for English, German, French and Spanish will be distributed to all Windows Home Server owners on Tuesday August 12th as part of the regular Windows Update distribution process. If you are anxious to have Power Pack 1 on your home servers, then you can use the following links to find the German, French, and Spanish Power Pack 1 update packages: German, Spanish, and French," Headrick added.
