When introducing their mobile software solution, Swype did announce that it should enable handset owners type much faster than before, and the latest official Guinness World Record seems set to show exactly that.

British Melissa Thompson, 27, is the one who holds the newest Guinness World Record for the fastest typing on a mobile phone.

She manged to type a wordy passage given to her in a little less than 26 seconds, which is about 10 seconds faster than the previous record.

“The razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human,” was the text Melissa Thompson wrote.

Ms Thompson wrote the said passage in 25.94 seconds, thus establishing the new Guinness World Record for typing on a mobile phone.

She managed to be faster than American Franklin Page, 24, who held the previous record for typing the same passage in March this year.

Melissa Thompson, from Salford, Greater Manchester, was using an Android-based Samsung Galaxy S smartphone with the Swype technology on it.

Ms Thompson works for an insurance company. She was shopping with her boyfriend Chris Davies when they visited a Samsung roadshow and she was invited to try breaking the record.

“I used to send a lot of text messages - 40 or 50-a-day to Chris alone so we both knew I could type fast,” she stated.

“But since we moved in together and I started my job I haven't been texting as much and, you could say, my fingers were out of shape. It's a real shock to find out that I'm the fastest texter in the world,” Ms Thompson continued.

Guinness World Record authorities still have to look into the new record to acknowledge it. The previous record was achieved on an Omnia II device from Samsung, also sporting the Swype technology.
