Ubisoft is reported to unveil a brand new game in its Rainbow Six franchise later today before the start of the E3 2011 conference, which takes the series back to its roots as a more tactical-oriented shooter.

Ubisoft released quite a few games in the Tom Clancy-inspired Rainbow Six series, with the last two ones, Vegas and its sequel, taking the series to a more mainstream genre after appearing on current generation platforms.

Now, the company is expected to present a new game in the series, which brings back more tactical-inspired mechanics from the first Rainbow Six titles.

According to Kotaku, the new Rainbow Six is focused more on stealth and tactics, than weapons or actions, with players asked to view briefings, build teams, pick weapons for each member and create paths through the level for the secondary members of the team.

This is a departure from the first and second Vegas titles, which only allowed you to guide the actions of your two team members, and orchestrate infiltrations depending on the level or situation.

The new Rainbow Six game will be more story-driven, with a gritty narrative and cinematic action, according to the report, which centers around stopping a homegrown terrorist group that operates in the US and wants to take vengeance on the "greed of Wall Street and the government that protects it."

The game is still a first-person shooter, but the view switches to a third-person one when you go into cover, just like in the Vegas titles, while the interface has a revised style, with simpler graphics that quickly depict the most important information to the player during the action.

When contacted for comment, Ubisoft declined to mention anything about the Rainbow Six franchise, so fans should wait for the French company's own press conference, scheduled to take place later today before the official start of E3 tomorrow.
