A stylized 2D platformer might appear in the classic series

A brand new report has appeared online claiming that Ubisoft is using the UbiArt Framework engine, last seen in Rayman Legends, to create an all-new Prince of Persia game that's a 2D platformer.

The Prince of Persia series brought Ubisoft a lot of recognition in the middle of the 2000s but, in recent years, the large publisher has mostly abandoned the series in order to focus on the likes of Assassin's Creed and other franchises.

Now, according to a new report from French website LPDJV, the company is working on a 2D Prince of Persia game that's being built using the UbiArt Framework engine seen in Rayman Legends.

Apparently the same animation techniques will be used, so expect stylized visuals, instead of the more realistic ones seen in the previous The Forgotten Sands.

While the UbiArt Framework engine certainly looks gorgeous, at least judging by Rayman Legends or the upcoming Child of Light, it's going to be interesting to see if it can complement the action seen in Prince of Persia, which involves not just acrobatics but also more intense combat.

Ubisoft has yet to comment on this rumor and you can bet that it won't reveal anything unless the time is right for a proper reveal.
