Intel does not declare any truce

It seems that Intel really wants to obliterate AMD as soon as possible. You may still remember that AMD was the last to announce a price cut for their current CPUs a couple of weeks ago, as the new Phenom processors are almost ready for launch. And what is Intel doing now? Right, its time for a price cut on their own Core 2 Quad CPUs.

Seeing AMD aggressively advertising their new quad-core Barcelona and Agena CPUs, Intel once again puts pressure on the rival CPU maker, planning huge price cuts on their existing versions of quad-core processors for desktops and servers. However, this strategic move will only occur beginning with July 22nd, as DailyTech informs.

In this sense, Intel's Q6600 desktop quad core CPU launched in February, currently sells for $530 in quantities of 1000 and according to the latest plans, the July 22nd price cut should bring the Q6600 as low as $266 for the same standard quantity. The current top-of -the-line QX6700 will also see a price drop, stabilizing at around $530 by the end of July 2007

Intel also intends to lower the prices in the server-oriented sector. Thus, the current price of $1172 for Xeon DP X5355 CPUs will drastically drop from $1172 to $744. Moreover, the Xeon DP L5320 and L5310 CPUs will be available for only $320 and $273 respectively.

Intel also announced that their last 65nm quad-core QX6800 CPU is expected to come in reduced volumes, while its availability was delayed to 3Q 2007. This occurred as the thermal specs did not turn out according to plans and Intel is now fine tuning the model . The QX6800 still remains a 2.93GHz/FSB 1066MHz CPU with 8MB of L2 cache and it will be available for $999 after July 22.
