Some people may favor flash drives for portable storage, but HDDs and SSDs are making their mark as well. I-O Data has just launched a solid-state drive actually.

Said SSD is called SSDP-ST and comes in 64 GB and 128 GB. I-O Data dubbed it the SSDP-ST Series.

The newcomer is compatible with smartphones, tablets, PCs and even Mac systems.

The 64 GB and 128 GB drives will start selling around mid-October for about 10,400 yen / $105 / €79 and 15,700 yen / $158 / €118, respectively.

That's actually a surprisingly low price for solid-state drives, although I suppose that they don't really have much more storage than a memory card (SD/CompactFlash).

Then again, with read speeds of up to 290 MB/s and max write rate of 176 MB/s, the tag may still be somewhat low. Not bad for a 37-gram item (1.3 ounces).

Keep in mind that USB On-the-Go support is needed for smartphone use.
