Pokemon is big business. Consider the animated series, the animated movies, the videogames, the action figures that fans of the series snap up as soon as they appear.

Since their first appearance in the game, way back in 1996, the creatures have managed to sell about 191 million units world wide. And on October 12, fans will be able to get their hands on Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky, which will be released for the Nintendo DSi and the DS Lite.

The new title has a rooster of 19 different characters that are playable throughout the campaign and there are another 490 of them that can be interacted with as the player progresses. Five of the starting Pokemons are totally new and their abilities and fighting style will be a surprise for those who have played the previous iterations in the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series.

The role playing aspect of the new release means that the various characters can be talked to but also fought against. Nintendo promises that Explorers of Sky will be the biggest and most engrossing adventure ever released on the DS handheld.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky will also feature something called Special Episodes, which are designed to offer fans a look at the background of some of the main characters, adding a fresh angle to the story being told.

Also, the title has some pretty complex multiplayer offerings, allowing players to enter games created by others and help them via the Wi-Fi connection, unlocking special missions in the process. Gamers can trade items obtained in Explorers of Sky and there's even an option of offering an entire demo version of the game via the Internet. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky will be arriving on October 12 and might be the biggest selling DS title of the year.
