New Plextor PX-B940SA Blu-ray Drive on the European Market

This new addition to Plextor's long line of internal optical drive units not only boasts a write speed of 12X, but also uses a serial ATA interface that provides users with a more than convenient-enough solution for Blu-ray playback of HD media files. The PX-B940SA Blu-ray is a dual-layer DVD drive that provides an increased storage capacity with its BD writing capabilities.

As the dual-layer highly versatile drive that it is, the PX-B940SA supports multiple formats – DVD R/RW and RAM – into one. It can accept both 12cm and 8cm discs (horizontally) and has a large 4MB buffer to ensure there is no data interruption. The writing speeds attainable are 12x BD-R DL/SL, 2x BD-RE, 16x DVD+R/-R, 8x DVD+RW, 6x DVD-RW, 8x DVD+/-R DL, 5x DVD-RAM, 40x CD-R and 24x CD-RW. As one can see, this Blu-ray wonder drive covers most of the commonly used disk formats, providing excellent data-storage possibilities through this wide variety of supported optical-disk types.

A very interesting feature of this device is the integrated CyberLink's BD Suite software package. This application suite includes the TrueTheater HD technology, which provides the latest in high-quality movie playback and, furthermore, allows users to fully enjoy their standard DVD content, even enhancing the video and audio quality by eliminating jagged edges and distracting video artifacts during their playback on high-resolution displays. In addition, the video up-scaling technology CyberLink can convert the video resolution from 480p to 1080p, making standard-definition content played on HD screens appear to be as sharp as high-resolution video.
