The new Platinum difficulty that developer BioWare is introducing to Mass Effect 3 in the upcoming Earth downloadable content is hard enough that only a limited number of the game designers have actually managed to beat it.

Mike Gamble, who is one of the producers working on the series, talked about Platinum during the recent San Diego Comic Con and said, “Platinum is so hard that only a handful of people at the office itself have ever beat it. We know that the players have been getting better and better since we launched.”

The developer added, “You’ll notice that the Adept and Infiltrator classes are all over the place. The rolling and the diving and whatnot is very, very quick compared to some of the other classes. There’s also a teleport option for some of the classes.”

The Earth DLC will add three new maps, three new weapons and a number of new classes for players to choose from and then develop.

The multiplayer mode of Mass Effect 3 is currently built around three difficulty levels and gamers get more and better monetary and experience rewards as the rounds get harder.

The money can be then spent in the store in order to get access to consumables and better weapons.

Earth will be launched on the PC, the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 on July 17 and BioWare says that it has plans to deliver more content for the multiplayer side of the game while also introducing more weekend operations.

BioWare recently launched an Extended Cut free content update which changed the ending of Mass Effect 3 in some significant ways after fans criticized the options that the game initially offered.

The developers have also said that they will offer other single-player DLC but have not talked about what it might include.
