Sony is expected to unveil a new
ultraportable computer system that is said to become part of the company's VAIO P series. Details on said ultraportable have recently been leaked on the Internet, indicating that the company might present the product sometime during the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Despite no detailed technical specifications, it is generally believed that, with the new system, Sony is trying to get a piece of the fast-growing market for netbooks and subnotebook computer systems.
Just recently, two images, allegedly showcasing parts of the keyboard on the new mobile VAIO, have been leaked on the Internet, via one of the company's Japanese websites. As you can probably see in the pictures attached to this article, the upcoming VAIO could provide its users with a trackpoint control system, much like the one you will find on fully-fledged notebook systems.
However, it is yet to be confirmed whether said laptop will only provide a trackpoint, replacing the usual trackpad found on most notebooks and netbooks. When reports on the system were initially leaked on the Internet through a teaser site of the company's New Zeeland subsidiary, the lappy was said to come as a revolutionary product.

According to additional leaked details on said laptop, Sony will equip the VAIO “Pocket” portable system with a 1.33GHz Intel processor, which doesn't specifically indicate that the system is going to boast the same Atom platform as most of the other netbooks on the market. The clock speed of the processor could suggest an Intel Core 2 Duo chip, which is to provide a potential boost of performance of the netbook-friendly Atom. However, the price of a Low Voltage or Ultra Low Voltage Core 2 Duo mobile CPU isn't that cheap, compared to the Atom. All of these would suggest that the upcoming VAIO won't be targeted at the netbook market.
