Philips announced recently the launch of a new range of multimedia LCD screens and monitors which are intended for use as home entertainment devices as they feature advanced technologies that deliver sharp images alongside faster than usual response times being perfect for gaming and movie watching. Ranging in size from 17 to 22 inches and coming with both the traditional 4:3 and the widescreen 16:9 aspect ratios the new Philips range of monitors implements the innovative PerfecTune technology in order to provide best-ever display performance and ultimate on-screen color accuracy according to the company's press release.

Alongside the PerfecTune technology Philips also integrated into the new range of monitors the SmartImage and the SmartAccessory features which are coupled with a tough and halogen free design as well as a flame-retardant plastic housing. In an effort to provide an environmentally friendly monitor line Philips restricted the use of hazardous materials as the manufacturing company strives to be RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) fully compliant.

Using the PerfecTune technology, the Philips monitors guarantee professional image quality at an affordable price as each monitor undergoes extensive testings that are stricter than the normal suite of tests required for Microsoft Windows Vista compatibility. As some of the new line of monitors recently launched by Philips are implementing the SmartImage technology they are able to provide a dynamic and real time adjustments of brightness, contrast, sharpness, color and response times and in doing so they deliver always the optimum display performance needed by the different screened contents. This technology was designed to be used in conjunction with the SmartResponse function which is also available in the "entertainment" mode in order to provide dynamically enhanced contrast, color saturation and sharpness of images or videos.

Apart from this performance centered technologies, Philips integrated into its new range of home intended LCD monitor advanced power saving features that are providing the lowest energy consumption in the whole industry, being up to 30 percent less power intensive when users select the "economy" mode or when it auto activates based on a preselected scenario. A default standard for the new Philips monitor range, the SmartAccessory feature uses multifunction clips in order to hold peripherals like webcams in close proximity and within reach but out of the way at the same time. "PerfecTune ensures that every monitor is 'golden sample quality' when it leaves the factory," says Bob Kobes, Vice President and General Manager, IT displays, Philips Consumer Electronics. "Alongside advanced features such as SmartImage, SmartGreen and SmartAccessory, Philips PerfecTune completely revolutionizes the way consumers view games, movies and photos."
