We're starting to come more and more frequently across certain products we only used to see in Sci-Fi movies up until now, and that's exactly the case with the particular device you'll read about as follows, namely the new SX-01 series Non-Contact Thermometer Mirror from NEC Avio, or Thermo Mirror for short. As you might have already guessed from the rather self-explanatory name, the main function of the thermo-mirror is to read one's temperature and display the value on its surface, right next to the person's own reflection.

The temperature is measured at the surface of the skin, much in the same way as in the case of a classical thermometer, but this solution is a lot more hygienic, since one won't actually have to touch the device in order for it to take a temperature reading, but just lean their forehead towards the thermo-mirror (in fact, the device will even compensate for the environmental temperature when providing a body temperature value).

However, users will have to be at around 30cm or closer to the mirror in order to get an accurate reading, and it's also important to mention that the device will provide the temperature in the 30 – 40 degrees Celsius range.

Plus, beside the temperature monitoring-function, the device from NEC Avio also offers a couple of interesting extra functions, such as an alarm function, a buzzer, a thermo-hygrometer and a humidity measurement instrument.

Last, but certainly not least, it's also quite important to mention that the thermo-mirror won't even take that much space around the house, given the fact that it measures 125 x 200 x 66mm (including stand) and weighs around 1.2kg.

For the time being, the company's offering two different thermo mirror models, the SX-01A, that sells for 98,000 Yen (1,180 US dollars) and is completely touch-free, and the thermo mirror SX-01B (120,000 Yen – 1,445 US dollars), that also sports a touch-enabled thermometer, able to provide a better level of accuracy.
