Updated SKUs go for the same price as (now) old models did. Multi-touch included

Told ya Tuesday was going to bring some joy. Well, as long as you're a MacBook lover anyway. Turns out Apple was planning on introducing new MacBook models. The Cupertino folks have also equipped the Mac Pro with smarter strackpads and multitouch features, while the extra memory, storage capacity and faster processor now seem like just an added treat, given that said MacBooks start at the same price as before.

That's right you workaholic, you...! "Faster is just the beginning. The new MacBook features the latest Intel Core 2 Duo processors, larger hard drives, and up to 2GB of memory standard. Best of all, MacBook still starts at $1099. It's the same does-everything-you-want notebook but better," says Apple.

As for the MacBook Pro, it sports the same Intel processor (part of the Penryn family - dual-core for laptops), a bigger hard drive, plenty of memory, and even more new features. The 15-inch display, 2.4GHz processor and 200GB hard disk model sounds much better with the same $1,999 price tag, wouldn't you say? The 17-inch model, which sports a 2.GHz processor, 6MB of cache memory, and a 250GB hard drive, is priced at $2,799, according to Apple. What's really great about the Pro however, is that it ships with an upgraded multi-touch capable trackpad that everyone's been dying to see implemented.

Just hours ago I was still trying to decide whether to cover Engadget.com's latest findings, concerning Apple's MacBook, which particularly concern a "printout of what's purported to be the Best Buy database listing for one of those heretofore-unknown MacBook model numbers." Check the image to the left (click to enlarge), you'll see what I mean.

So, it's confirmed then. Apple's favorite announcement day (out of all the days in the week, they had to choose Tuesday... eh) has yet again confirmed a burning rumor. As noted above, the previously speculated multitouch features are only present with the new MacBook Pro SKU but if you're going for the MacBook, at least you're getting more computing power and storage space for the same price, so wipe those tears away.

Update: this story has undergone a bit of a correction procedure, as new MacBook Pros indeed include the long-rumored multi-touch trackpad, featuring pinch, swipe and rotate capabilities.

Thanks Mike
