Openwave Systems Inc, one of the most well-known software developers, which produces customized services that combine mobile and broadband experience, has recently released Openwave Guardian, its most recent service enabler for Openwave Integra, a next-generation platform for mobile Internet service management.

The latest service will offer mobile operators the possibility to secure their networks against threats such as viruses or malicious attacks, as well as to protect their clients against inappropriate content. More precisely, using several types of methods for removing unwanted content, all mobile operators will be able to deliver higher-quality mobile Internet, as usually expected by their users, while they can still run the applications and services they prefer.

“As more and more subscribers are using their mobile devices to access Internet content, operators are under more pressure than ever before to protect their networks and subscribers,” believes Dan Nguyen, vice president, product management, Openwave. “Openwave Guardian provides a comprehensive set of security features to meet an operator’s unique business needs while working to ensure that the subscriber feels safe while browsing open Internet content from their mobile device.”

Also, Openwave Guardian is only one of the several services provided by the company for its Integra Mobile Internet Service Platform. Furthermore, due to Integra's plugin framework, Guardian will be able to protect all the data traffic routed through the platform. Moreover, the new service's architecture ensures the possibility to easily implement new applications whenever new threats appear. Also, because of Integra's innovative workflow engine, mobile operators will be able to control when and how the functions of Guardian are used.

Another feature offered by Openwave Guardian is that it can restrict content access based on URL category; in other words, a mobile operator can limit access to certain content categories, such as banning adult content for minors, including when performing a search (by activating the 'safe search' feature). Additionally, Openwave Guardian provides support for antivirus protection, by means of intercepting specific transaction requests and response paths depending on their URL or their content type, then analyzing them for identifying a potential virus.
