The promo campaign for “New Moon,” the second installment in “The Twilight Saga,” although still a long way to go until release, has just been kicked in a higher gear, with Summit releasing a couple of official photos from the film, EW reports. Together with the stills, the movie studio also offers a couple of details on what the fans should expect from the movie, while a new official website has also been launched.

One of the stills made public shows Bella (Kristen Stewart) sitting on the floor, next to a table covered in scattered roses and with clear signs of an act of violence. Director Chris Weitz explains to EW that the scene takes place on Bella’s 18th birthday, as Edward (Robert Pattinson) tries to protect her from another vampire. At the same time, the director assures fans, all members of the cast are reading the “New Moon” book to make sure their performances deliver on the promises the novel makes.

“The whole cast is reading the book and wanting to get it right. They want to deliver on the promise these books make to the readers.” Weitz explains for the aforementioned source. Still, doing this is difficult, since the advantage books have over films is that they can better render a certain atmosphere and feeling, which only makes shooting “New Moon” all that much harder. “When you get broken up with, it really is the worst thing in the world.” the director says of what happens to the much beloved Bella-Edward couple. “Meyer gives a kind of supernatural context to people’s real feelings, which sums up what we all go through.” Weitz adds.

Another pic just released by Summit shows Bella and Edward kissing. Speaking of the gorgeous vampire with an equally beautiful soul, director Weitz says his absence from the narrative was the biggest obstacle “New Moon” had to overcome. In the end, he says, they did come up with a solution, one that will definitely please fans. “Rob was the first guy to say to me, ‘You know, you don’t really need to have too much of me in this film.’ I don’t want him too present, so his apparition will be a subtle, flitting effect – clearly a reflection of Bella’s will and desire to see him.” Weitz explains.

As fans must know, “New Moon” hits theaters on November 20. Until then, the first footage from the film is expected to air during the MTV Movie Awards on May 31, with Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner taking the stage to introduce it.
