On May 28th, 2008, NVidia decided to please the Linux world and launched version 173.14.05 of their graphics drivers, which brought
preliminary support for X.org Server 1.5 (used in bleeding-edge distributions, such as Fedora 9). A few days ago, they decided to make the Linux users happy again, by releasing yet another bugfix version of their graphics drivers, Nvidia 173.14.09.

So, what do the NVidia 173.14.09 drivers bring? Well, the most important feature of this release is the preliminary support for Linux kernel 2.6.26, so you will not have to patch the drivers in bleeding-edge distros. The new drivers also bring improved support for X.org server 1.5, which was introduced in the previous release, by fixing the aliased font rendering corruption.

Moreover, the NVidia 173.14.09 drivers fix a display corruption for two dual-link DFPs with Quadro FX 1700 GPUs configuration, some GeForce FX, 6 and 7 mobile GPUs problems that prevented the video drivers to start and a local-interaction problem found in the Nvidia-settings package.

The FreeBSD version of the Nvidia drivers fixes a problem were some OpenGL programs caused memory leaks when syncing to vblank.
