Named RM-242 for the moment

A new Nokia multimedia phone has just been approved by FCC and will probably be launched soon on the US market. The handset's name was not yet announced, all we know is that it's named RM-242 by FCC. RM-242 is a slider phone that looks quite nice and, considering its aspect, it's most probably another handset that can be easily integrated in the Nokia music phones family. It has play/pause buttons right in the middle, between the Answer and Hang-up keys and this fact will probably make playing and listening to music a very easy thing to do.

On the multimedia side, besides the music playing features that the phone seems to have, RM-242 has a 3.2 megapixel camera, which is enough for those wanting to take good quality pictures. Of course, the camera supports video recording too. I say "of course" because most of the new mid to high-range phones do have this ability. And RM-242 seems to be at least a mid-range phone. USB interface for data sync and a 2.5 mm audio connector also come with this phone. Furthermore, it supports Nokia Xpress audio messaging and features Push-To-Talk support, Voice Recorder, FM radio, Equalizer and Visual Radio.

RM-242 looks to be a Java-enabled phone and it is a quad-band GSM handset, capable to operate in the 850 MHz, 900 MHz,1800 MHz and 1900 MHz frequency bands, which basically means all over the world. The phone is 3G compatible, supporting WCDMA 850 and 2100.

No info about how much the new Nokia costs or when exactly it will be commercially available, but since it got FCC approval, its launching should come in the near future. So those curious about the RM-242 just have to wait a bit. I'm sure the waiting is worth it.
