The guys over at Nokia Beta Labs announced today the release of new beta clients for Nokia Image Exchange, which come with extended functionality when compared to the previously released flavors. According to the developing team, the new beta clients for Nokia Image Exchange will offer users the possibility to add people to their People menu, to set a screen name from their handset, and also to search through images in a grid layout, though only the touch UI version sports this feature.

“Due to the amount of images that get published every day, we thought it would be nice to be able to see public images from just certain people without the need to wade through the whole public image stream. As a result, we've now added the possibility to add people to your People menu. Simply click 'Add to People' on a person's image and the images he/she publishes later on appear directly under his/her screen name in your People menu. This feature is available via both the mobile and web interfaces,” a recent post on the Nokia Beta Labs Blog Notes.

According to the developing team, the new feature that enables users to set their screen name from their mobile phone has been added mainly due to the fact that those willing to add new people to their People menu will be able to do so only for those who have already set their screen name. The new feature can be found in the options menu under 'Account Information' > 'Set screen name...'. As for the touch UI version of the client, it enables users to see an overview of their shots.

For those who might not be familiar with Nokia Image Exchange we should say that this is an experimental imaging service developed for Nokia handsets, and it should offer users the possibility to easily share images with friends. There are two clients of the service available for download, one for non-touch handsets (compatible with N95, N85, N82, E71, N76, N78 and Nokia 5320 XpressMusic), and one for touchscreen devices (compatible with N97, N97 Mini, 5530, 5800 XpressMusic and X6). The latter is a pre-beta version of Nokia Image Exchange, which still lacks enhanced features for the time being.
