Nintendo revealed yesterday two new DS models, but not those revamped gaming devices you were waiting for, but rather special editions of the regular console. The first of them arrives with a golden case and includes "The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass", while the second is available in metallic pink and includes the famous
Nintendogs best-seller title.
The two above-mentioned games sure sound familiar, specially if we take into consideration the fact that Zelda is as famous as Mario, while Nintendogs has sold more copies than Halo 3. Nintendo's special DS models launch hits the spot, as the owners of the portable
gaming devices are usually collectors and customizing freaks and they'll adore the new color schemes.
We'll see the bundles on sale on November 23, at least in the United States, a brilliant decision if you ask me, since it follows the Thanksgiving holiday, one of the most important shopping days of the year. It's no wonder that Nintendo wants to capitalize on its best-selling product, especially if you look at the US sales figures - 4.5 million units (only this year!), each worth $130.
The average price for a
DS console bundled with a game is about $160, but now Nintendo decided to allow the retailers to set their own prices, in the case of the new special models. Do you fancy a red and white Nintendo DS for Christmas? Portable devices are more suitable for changing colors, as "desktop" consoles don't usually get as much attention from the gamers as the PSP, DS or GBA do.
After all, we're stuck all day watching not only the portable device's screen, but also its case and we'd really like to change the console's looks every once in a while, adding new flavors. We'll see if Nintendo's launch proves to be as successful as its previous ones.
