Rumors about a coming homebrew channel for the 3DS handheld have been swirling around for some time, but it seems that those gamers who are interested in running their own applications on the device will have to wait a little bit longer.

NintendoLife says that the creator of the planned service was surprised by the reveal of the New Nintendo 3DS and wants to see what it can deliver in terms of performance and functionality before he makes a decision.

Apparently, this might mean that the homebrew channel might be coming close to the end of 2014.

The solution is not designed to allow users to break the protection of the 3DS and play pirated content but only to give them a simple and clean solution to use their own content, created by the enthusiast community.

Nintendo has long been against any kind of player modifications to its hardware and has tried a host of measures to stop the creation of any homebrew content for the Wii U or the 3DS, with plenty of the firmware updates for both devices designed to eliminate any exploits that could support them.

The New Nintendo 3DS is designed to introduce better hardware for the handheld and will also come complete with a new analog stick for enhanced control.
