The team in charge of hardware development at Nintendo announces that it is ready to launch a new version of the 3DS handheld, both in classic and in LL versions, which is designed to integrate a second stick and to add new shoulder buttons.

The device is somewhat confusingly called New Nintendo 3DS and includes a small new analog slide pad stick just above the buttons, which have been colored to have the classic SNES colors.

A Near Field Communications element is built in, which means that the new handheld is able to use the Amiibo figurines that Nintendo plans to launch before the end of the year, according to NeoGAF.

The presentation also suggests that there’s more computing power in the New Nintendo 3DS and its LL version, and that the battery has been improved in order to ensure a longer life on the road.

Support for HTML 5 is also included, and the entire device is designed to appeal to those who have not yet picked up a handheld service.

Nintendo has not said what price is attached to the New Nintendo 3DS and whether it will launch it only in Japan or the device will also be offered in Europe and in North America.
