Worldwide provider of networking technology NETGEAR introduced the breakthrough ProSafe® Plus Switch™ series. This new family of customizable switches uses Green Ethernet features, while allowing users to easily configure their network options and still take full advantage of all the top-notch features of Ethernet networks.

“Businesses are relying more heavily on their networks as they deploy more Ethernet-based technologies such as VoIP, as well as Internet-based applications for email, calendaring and collaboration,” Maggie Wu, NETGEAR’s product line manager for SMB Switching Products, said. “To support this trend, NETGEAR has created this simple yet powerful network switch for businesses. The ProSafe Plus Switch, as an upgrade from the simple connectivity of an unmanaged switch, offers our customers essential network features such as enhanced security, troubleshooting, traffic prioritization, segmentation and monitoring, all at an affordable price.”

Indeed, at a price only slightly higher than that of unmanaged switches, the ProSafe Plus series supports Quality of Service (QoS), VLANs and cable testing for better control of Ethernet networks. Also, the advanced networking options mentioned above are easily manageable through the easy-to-use configuration tools. The software utility, for instance, is graphically based and enables an easy network traffic management.

Traffic priority is assigned based on physically connected ports or according to the type of data used, such as voice, streaming or video. Cable-testing capabilities are also included for the easy troubleshooting and resolving of connectivity problems. This is especially appealing, considering that normal network diagnostics tools usually cost hundreds of dollars, whereas they are an integrated part of the ProSafe line.

The ports come in two high-speed Ethernet versions, namely the FS116E 16-port switch, packaged in sturdy metal cases ideal for desktops, and the 24-port JFS524E rack-mounted switch. The desktop 5-port GS105E Gigabit Ethernet switch is also part of this new line of products. All three deliver the enumerated services while utilizing the Green Ethernet technology for a minimum power consumption while still delivering maximum performance in network monitoring, cable testing, traffic prioritization and network segmentation for better troubleshooting, security and resource allocation.

NETGEAR ProSafe Plus Switches (FS116E, JFS524E and GS105E) will be available worldwide at an estimated store price of $70 for the GS105E, of $90 for the FS116E and of $110 for the JFS524E. More information on these products may be found here.
