One of the Android-based mobile phones that Verizon Wireless is expected to make available for its customers in the not too far future would be the Motorola DROID X2, and some new photos with the device have made it into the wild recently.

The new smartphone was not officially unveiled as of yet, and it might take some time before Verizon and Motorola decide to make the move.

For the time being, however, all that we have on the Motorola DROID X2 includes a series of photos, complemented by leaked hardware specifications, though nothing confirmed.

But the new photos with the mobile phone point at the fact that it is indeed headed to Verizon, just as the recently leaked benchmarking results with it did.

The new Motorola DROID X2 smartphone does not appear to be much different from the original device, which arrived on shelves in summer last year.

But rest assured, it does come with new features included into the mix, as well as with enhanced hardware specifications.

The new device runs under Android 2.2.2 Froyo, though Motorola would certainly load Android 2.3 Gingerbread on it before launch.

Other specs would include the qHD display, which looks pretty impressive, along with a HDMI port, microUSB, and an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with dual LED flash and, most probably, HD video recording capabilities.

Over all, the outer design of the new device resembles a lot with the looks of the original DROID X, it seems.

This is not the only Motorola Android device that Verizon plans on launching in the near future, as it would be accompanied by the already announced DROID Bionic, as well as by the rumored DROID 3 smartphone.

Some of the previous rumors on Verizon's roadmap suggested that some of these devices, DROID X2 included, might be released during the second quarter of the ongoing year.
