Verizon Wireless did not launch the Motorola DROID 4 smartphone on December 22nd as some of the previous rumors suggested, though it might make the move as soon as February 2012, some suggest. In the meantime, all that we have to move along are a series of leaked photos with the mobile phone, complemented by leaked hardware specs.

New images with the smartphone have just made an appearance, showing a bit more of what the handset is all about.

Motorola DROID 4 is expected to arrive on shelves with a back panel that resembles a lot with the one present on DROID RAZR, something that should be no surprise to us.

Unfortunately, the curves of this device are not clearly visible due to the fact that it is showed against a black background.

Press photos with the mobile phone have been already spotted into the wild, and we got the chance to see its five-row QWERTY and the 4-inch display before.

Moreover, we learned that the handset is set to arrive on shelves at Verizon with support for the wireless carrier’s 4G LTE network, and that it will be powered by a fast 1.2GH dual-core application processor when made available.

It will also include 1GB of RAM, as well as an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, featuring support for full HD video recording. A front camera will offer users the possibility to make video calls.

At the same time, the handset will arrive on shelves with a 1785mAh battery inside, which might not be fit for a LTE handset in the end.

Other specifications of Motorola DROID 4 would include WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, Mini-USB and HDMI, 1080p mirror mode for HDMI mirroring to HD TVs, and support for the wireless carrier’s 3G network.

The smartphone is said to be running under Google’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system at the moment, but chances are that it will get an update to Ice Cream Sandwich before it will be launched (which would explain the delayed release).

Until more info on the new handset emerges, you can have a look at it through the photos that emerged courtesy of Droid-life.
