Other changes on the way as well

Infinity Ward just recently released its 1.06 patch of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 only to find out that it did more damage than mending. The Javelin glitch was solved, but, to take its place, others even worse popped their heads out of the sand. One of them that is pretty much up the same alley as the Javelin bug, but even further down the road than it, is the unlimited ammo glitch.

Every now and then, the game decides to remove the ammo counter from your weapons when joining a public match, the end-result being a total gore-fest with any rifle that comes with a grenade launcher, since there is no reload time either and you can just pelt the map with 40 mm grenades.

The second problem that came up during the 1.06 patch was the public “private” match, where players could fiddle around with the settings resulting in “custom rulesets.” Both problems were spotted early on by IW, and it has already announced that developers are hard at work fixing them. In fact, they've been working so hard that these fixes are already done and have now entered a testing stage that is, obviously, crucial and will probably just as obviously generate new bugs.

But before we start thinking about what the new patch will break, we should take a closer look at what it will fix. The prestige hack for the PS3 is also to go away. As for the PC, it seems like the texture hacks have been also dealt with. Since this is about to go away, we can only expect that they've somehow managed to restrict the editing of all IWD files, but this is a cat-and-mouse game, and hackers are bound to find a way around this as well.

Another thing promised by the upcoming patch is that the 1887 shotgun will receive an overhaul, meant to rebalance its use. If this will be achieved by reducing its range, damage or spread remains to be seen, but the Terminator shotgun, while very cool, is definitely unbalanced.
