It comes about as close to the shape of a perfect cube as a desktop case can

Personal computer cases don't easily approach the shape of a cube, even the ones that are called “Cubic” are actually rectangular, if a bit wider than their peers. The latest model from Inter-Tech comes really close though.

The product, called ITX E-D3, is a micro-ATX enclosure with room for one 3.5-inch drive and two 2.5-inch storage devices.

Not all that much, to be sure, but this is a very small case, made for home-theater personal computers or DIY mini PCs for business.

All in all, the Inter-tech ITX E-D3 measures 260 x 222 x 224 mm / 10.23 x 8.74 x 8.81 inches.

That said, the case still fits a 120 mm fan at the top, for active cooling of the hardware within, supplementing whatever fansink the CPU comes with.

Finally, the input/output panel (I/O) is located at the top of the chassis, providing one USB 3.0 port, one USB 2.0 connector and two audio ports (headphones and microphone).

Despite the stout shape, the newcomer does not have a horizontally mounted motherboard. It doesn't have an actual mobo tray either, just two strips of metal that hold it in place. Then again, since mini-ITX motherboards are light, there is no need for more, and this will let air make contact with the underside, for extra cooling.

Inter-tech should already be accepting pre-orders for the ITX E-D3, for a price of just under $30 / €30. No clue when shipments will begin though.
