Asustek has surely taken advantage of the new holiday hysteria that made their Eee PC stocks vanish overnight. The cheap notebook PC has sold millions by now and you can consider yourself lucky if you even spot an Eee unit. Eee PC 4G and 4G Surf models sell at $349 and features 512MB of DDR2 memory, a 4GB solid-state disk (SSD), a 7" 800x480 display and a 900MHz ULV Celeron processor.

Asus is cooking another model, that promises a little more compared to the 4G. The new Eee PC 8G comes equipped with a 8GB SSD and 1GB of DDR2 memory, twice as the younger 4G brother. The prices have been adjusted according to the model's performance and you can get the new 8G model for as much as $499, but don't rush, because the model's availability is set for mid- to late December. You will still have time to get your hands on it until Christmas, and Asus will release it in two flavors: Pearl White or Galaxy Black.

The new member of the Eee family will surely be a marketing test that will show the company how a $499 price tag will be regarded by the consumers, as compared to the cheaper $399 model. Even at about $500, Asustek's Eee PC is still the cheapest 12-inch ultra-portable notebook ever. It's true that the new 8G series can now perform better and faster, due to their 1GB of DDR2 memory, but it's up to the consumer to decide whether performance is more appealing than the $399 price tag.

Asustek has already started sending demonstration units of the 8G model. Apart from the Pearl White and Galaxy Black models, pictures presented by Mobile O1 confirms that there is a green version of the notebook, while Asus has announced that 2008 will bring two more models to be available in sky blue and pink.
