In preparation for the late year launch of Mass Effect 3 Electronic Arts, as the publisher, and developer BioWare are again partnering with comic book company Dark Horse to create a series of comics that tell a story linked to the game universe.

Jeremy Atkins, a representative of Dark Horse, has said that the 2011 Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo event that, “We are going to publish another Mass Effect series later this year.”

The comic book executive has not said what the subject the Mass Effect series will tackle or who will be the main characters involved.

It's pretty safe to presume that the comic book will deal with the period between the second and third games in the Mass Effect franchise, perhaps showing the effects that the Reaper invasion of Earth has on other races or on characters that are important to the universe.

BioWare, Electronic Arts and Dark Horse have also worked together on Mass Effect Evolution, a comic book set between the first and second games, which was pretty well received by fans of the Commander Shepard saga.

BioWare also used a comic book like sequence to introduce PlayStation 3 gamers to the events of the first Mass Effect game before allowing them to play through the second one.

The third game in the Mass Effect series has been officially unveiled at the VGA ceremony in late 2010 with BioWare showing a trailer that describes a Reaper invasion of Earth, with the main character of the franchise standing on the bridge of the Normandy, ready to travel the universe in order to find allies and defeat the robotic enemies.

Mass Effect 3 is set to be launched at the same time on the PlayStation 3 from Sony, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the PC and the game currently does not have a clear launch date.
