Rogue Artificial Intelligence encounter

BioWare, as the developer, and Electronic Arts, as the publisher, have announced that new downloadable content called Overlord will be delivered for Mass Effect 2 in June on all platforms for the price of 560 Microsoft Points, which is the equivalent of 7 dollars.

The new pack will set savior of the galaxy Commander Shepard against the threat of a rogue Artificial Intelligence called Overlord, which has been experimenting on both Geth and human subjects on a remote planet, in an effort to create a viable hybrid with which to dominate the sector.

No new weapons and no new characters will be introduced and Shepard and his chosen team will use the newly delivered Hammerhead tank to move from mission to mission. There will be five chapters to the Overlord story and BioWare says that players will get about two and a half hours of gameplay out of it. Players can also expect something of a horror tone to the whole DLC pack.

Mass Effect 2 was launched in January this year and managed to draw in both fans of the original game in the series and new players with its mix of role playing mechanics and its vastly improved shooting sections. Even before the space based adventure was out, BioWare was promising a lot of downloadable content for it, with a big chunk delivered for free to those who bought the new game and with a few more significant additions being paid for by all players.

It's not clear how much content the developers are planning to launch for it after the Overlord pack arrives in June, especially considering that BioWare is working on a new Dragon Age title, which should be delivered before the end of March 2011 and on The Old Republic Star Wars based MMO. After all, most players would be more interested in hearing that Mass Effect 3 is being worked on rather than getting a small two-hour adventure.
