The first Release Candidate for Manjaro Xfce 0.8.11, a Linux distribution based on well-tested snapshots of the Arch Linux repositories and 100% compatible with Arch, has been made available and is now ready for testing.

The new Manjaro version has been in the works for a long time and the devs have made some very important changes. The long development period was not wasted, and in fact, it should really carry this version that people mistakenly think is only a small upgrade.

It will take a while for users to catch up, and this Release Candidate is a good way to see what’s changed.

Usually, the Manajaro development cycle is fast and the upgrades arrive in a timely manner. The same didn't happen with the 0.8.11 branch, which has been delayed for some very good reasons. The end result seems to be a much more polished experience and the system is clean and fast.

Manjaro Xfce 0.8.11 RC is just a preview of things to come

This is the Xfce flavor of the distribution, so you can expect it to be fast, but the developers have also taken the time to make it much more attractive.

The attention to detail really sets it apart and users will notice immediately that it's a beautiful system that provides a great experience.

"It's been longer than usual since our last release so the updates and enhancements are many. The Manjaro Settings Manager has seen new features since the 0.8.10 installation media, including configurable notification settings and new modules for Kernel version management and system time & date settings."

"In what has ended up being good timing, Pamac, our graphical package management software for GTK-oriented DE's, is also at release candidate stage for it's new version and is included on this media. Our Menda theme has been completely overhauled and updated, supporting new toolkit releases such as GTK 3.14, and offers a more unique look than previously," reads the official announcement.

The developers also explain that they are now using LightDM for the login process, the Steam distribution platform has been integrated by default, and some components from the Xfce 4.11 branch have been implemented as well.

More details about this release can be found in the official announcement. You can download Manjaro Xfce 0.8.11 RC right now from Softpedia. The Live CD works like a charm and users should really give it a try.
