You can thank the metal spring button for that one

Gaming mice come in various forms, and they can have between several and a myriad of different buttons. Since it's usually a tossup that is more important between button number and performance, companies try to provide both. Logitech has just revealed a mouse that is somewhat less embellished than usual.

We're making abstraction of MMO mice for the purposes of this article. Those things are so riddled with buttons that you probably won't find uses for all of them, especially with their extensive macro support.

As far as all other games go, though, there are two ways to go about things: install all features and make a well-rounded mouse, or install all features plus a perk or two that makes it more suited for a specific sort of game.

Logitech did the latter when it created the G302 Daedalus Prime MOBA Gaming Mouse. The bet is that the extra pedigree will justify the slight price premium compared to “normal” mice.

This mouse looks pretty normal on the surface, save for the somewhat more streamlined design of the so-called hull. However, the interior components stand out, particularly when it comes to the primary buttons.

Clicking mechanisms are usually pretty straightforward, although certain mechanical switches have distinguished themselves over time.

For this occasion, however, Logitech broke off from all conventions and installed a unique metal spring button that improves click responsiveness thanks to its tensioning system.

This “[makes] in-game actions fast and accurate” according to the company's announcement, and also has the benefit of ensuring a long, long life of around 20 million clicks, to “withstand the rigors of the highest tiers of professional eSports gaming” for up to 15 hours a day for two years.

Another thing is the Delta Zero sensor, which employs special lenses and illumination geometry to translate hand movements to on-screen actions as well as can be hoped.

As for customization, you still get six buttons, which can be programmed to do anything from on-button functions to full macros.

Availability and pricing

The Logitech G302 Daedalus Prime MOBA Gaming Mouse, where MOBA stands for multiplayer online battle arena (like DOTA), will sell starting this month (November 2014) for $50 / €40.

“We built the Logitech G302 to meet the performance needs of the best eSports athletes in the world,” said Vincent Tucker, director of Logitech gaming. “The G302 is the best mouse for MOBA gameplay combining comfort and durability with some of the most advanced technology available. It withstands the rigors of the highest levels of gaming, and enables extremely fast clicking and precise timing, which is critical, given that a victory or loss can be determined in milliseconds.”
