Logitech may have released a large number of peripherals in its time, but the most recent one may turn out to be one of its more daring projects, what with its ability to recover its energy by simply being bathed in light.

The new device that the world-class maker of peripherals has created is a keyboard known as the Wireless Solar Keyboard K750.

As far as the build and usability go, it boasts Incurve keys with a concave design, plus soft edges, which should make typing easier.

But what truly gives the electronic its name is, as one would expect, its ability to recharge off light, not just solar, natural light, but also artificial one.

To complement this ability, granted by the integrated solar panel, a solar power app will provide a lux meter to assist in making the best of the light available.

This software will become available for download on November 15 and will also provide information on battery power levels.

The company also implemented 2.4 GHz wireless connectivity and bundled the Unifying receiver, while throwing in 128-bit AES encryption as a bonus.

"The keyboard is still the best input device for typing emails and IMs, updating your Facebook page or posting responses to your favorite blogs - and the Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard K750 is the next big innovation in keyboard technology," said Denis Pavillard, vice president of product marketing for Logitech's keyboards and desktops.

"The Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard is powered by light but can work in total darkness for up to three months,” Pavillard added.

“Plus, with its PVC-free construction and fully recyclable packaging, it's designed to minimize its footprint," he went on to saying.

The keyboard has a rounded edge, is about as thick as a third of an inch and should start shipping in the US within a month or so. The price will end up at around $80.
