It seems that Lenovo figured this was a good time for its collection of servers to expand and for its line of business desktops to also grow, leading to new product announcements of the ThinkCentre and ThinkServer varieties.

As end-users may or may not know, Advanced Micro Devices, not long ago, officially introduced the A-Series Llano APU (accelerated processing unit) series.

Turns out, however, that Lenovo was not as quick as Toshiba and HP in unleashing systems powered by them.

Instead, what the outfit did was offer something for the server and business desktop markets, in both cases relying on Intel's collection of CPUs.

The ThinkCentre M71e, for instance, is a desktop which, although low-end in its base form, can, nevertheless, have up to a Core i7 CPU and 8 GB of RAM.

Meanwhile, the ThinkServer TS130 and TS430 have Xeon E3-1200 Series processors and up to 4 TB and 16 TB of storage space, respectively. Also, a DVD drive is present on each machine.

“The ThinkServer TS430 changes the game for small business servers,” said Tom Ribble, director of worldwide marketing, ThinkServer Business Unit, Lenovo.

“With outstanding storage scalability, premium SAS RAID and redundant power choices, the ThinkServer TS430 delivers all these features and world-class quality at unmatched prices.”

The TS130 and TS430 will start selling this month (June, 2011), for $499 and $699, respectively, while the ThinkCentre M71e will boast a starting price of $529. Lenovo also offers LTO and RDX tape storage as data backup options for the ThinkServers.

“The Lenovo ThinkServer TS130 delivers capabilities that small business owners need in a server by including features like the latest Intel® Active Management Technology -- an outstanding remote manageability solution,” said Boyd Davis, VP and GM of Data Center Group Marketing at Intel.

“By combining rich features like AMT, Lenovo makes it easy for small businesses to implement server technology.”
